- A very-brief history of Mouton:
- 1718 – Acquired from the Foix family by Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, owner of Lafite and Latour.
- 1720 – Acquired from de Ségur by Joseph de Brane, who renamed the estate to “Château Brane-Mouton”.
- 1853 – Acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, who renamed the estate “Château Mouton-Rothschild”.
- 1922 – Baron Philippe de Rothschild, great-grandson of Nathaniel, takes control of Mouton at 20 years of age.
- 1973 – Following a decree signed by Agriculture Minister Jacques Chirac, Château Mouton-Rothschild is elevated to First-Growth status in the 1855 Classification.
- 1988 – the death of Baron Philippe. Ownership passes to his sole living child and daugther, Baroness Philippine Mathilde Camille de Rothschild.
- 2014 – the death of Baroness Philippine. She was succeeded by her son Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, who works with siblings Camille Seyres de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild.
